Walking tour: The Grumbach pass via Engelbourg

5 Km 2h 260 Easy

Would you like to discover an exceptional and unusual site high above Thann? Let yourself be surprised by the "Eye of the Witch", which looks out over the Alsace plain and keeps a watchful eye on the town's inhabitants. Legend has it that the Engelbourg castle, which was no longer of strategic interest, was destroyed in 1673 on the orders of Louis XIV, King of France. After three attempts to blow it up, the big tower rose up, broke into several parts and one of them fell back to form "L'oeil de la Sorcière" (The Witch's Eye). A family walk in the footsteps of the town's history. Its highlight: the 360° view from the ruins.
