The role of the Vosges Club is to promote and develop hiking tourism as well as all outdoor activities and sports, to protect and enhance nature, landscapes and heritage.
Today, the Vosges Club Federation brings together 123 associations, 34.000 members in 7 departments, and ensures the maintenance and marking of 20.000 km of hiking trails open to all hikers.
In our region, two associations are working to guarantee quality trails: the Vosges Club of Cernay and that of Thann.
OUR GOOD ADVICE before going hiking:
WELL Prepare your hike: mark your route on an IGN map, assess the distance, time, elevation and difficulty.
Here are some tips to ensure your hike goes smoothly:
Equipment
- Clothing appropriate for the season and weather conditions
- Hiking shoes suitable for the terrain
- Telescopic poles (useful for stability and to relieve joints)
- Mobile phone and spare battery if needed
- Essential 1/25 hiking map
Contents of the bag
- Provide protection against the rain (cape, umbrella, etc.), the cold (fleece, hat, gloves, lip protection, etc.), the sun (sunscreen, hat, etc.)
- Garbage bag
- Paper tissues, toilet paper
- Knife
– Survival blanket – Supplies
- First aid kit
Most
- Compass and/or hiking GPS
- Camera or binoculars
- Headlamp or flashlight
- Whistle (to warn other members of the group)
- Fluorescent yellow vest (if it is necessary to walk along a road)

- Public or private properties and their assets: close fences and barriers after you have left them

Understanding the markup:
The marking signs
It is a means of information that allows you to orient yourself in an unknown environment with the help of a map faithfully reproducing the routes marked on the ground. The system is based on the use of geometric signs, in 4 colors.
Please note!
The same section of trails often has several different signs corresponding to different final destinations, but these routes split during the hike. Be careful and note on the map where this separation is located, in order to find it on the ground.
