Exploited since the 16th century, the Saint-Nicolas mine played a crucial role in supplying lead to the foundries of Giromagny, under the aegis of the House of Austria. However, its prosperity was interrupted by the ravages of the Thirty Years' War, and its activity was definitively halted in 1902 after the vein was confirmed as exhausted.
