The Rossberg massif
Located at the extreme tip of the Ballon d'Alsace chain and the Vosges massif, the chaumes offer a magnificent view of the Thur and Doller valleys.
The word "Rossberg" refers to the wild horses that lived there until the 16th century, "Ross" meaning horse in German.
Piles of stones line the path and bear witness to the presence of several farms on this stubble.
With the arrival of skiers in 1906 on the slopes of Rossberg, chalets and a ski lift were built. The chaumes are a vast area of pasture where you can meet cows, sheep and horses...
In the centre of the Massif are the Vogelsteine (1165m), rocky promontories of volcanic origin, a favourite place for fragile rock flora.
